Mrs. A. is a widow, in Elmwood Park, NJ who was accepted into DDS in December of 2005 because of numerous debilitating health problems, including high cholesterol, a thyroid problem, arthritis and a heart condition. Mrs. A. lives off of social security benefits, totaling $1005 a month. Rising heating costs have made it hard for her to keep up with all her medical prescriptions, let alone pay for her much needed dental treatment. Mrs. A was in such pain, she could barely eat. Her teeth were so pointed(see picture below), due to breakage, that they were cutting the inside of her mouth; she was in need of 3 crowns for tooth #'s 11,13,& 15 as well as upper and lower dentures. Thanks to Dr. L, AGD member and DDS volunteer for 19 years Mrs. A. was able to get much needed dental treatment. Furthermore, without the help of local labs that created crowns and dentures, the New Jersey Foundation of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities would have incurred an enormous lab bill. Now, Mrs. A. can't stop smiling.
