Mr. H was severely injured in an automobile accident in his mid forties; he suffered 33 broken bones causing him permanent limited movement and strength in his lower extremities, leaving him unable to work. Several years after that tragedy, his son suffered a traumatic brain injury resulting in the need for around the clock care. Instead of confining him to a nursing home, Mr. H and his wife cared for their son in their home, as well as their two grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. H have tremendous trouble making ends meet and have accumulated many unpaid medical bills, so Mr. H’s need for new dentures could not be addressed. “For years, I had to put the needs of my son and grandchildren ahead of my own,” commented Mr. H. Dr. B had donated his services to several individuals but Mr. H was the first patient referred to him through DDS. Dr. B explained, “I was very happy to become involved with Mr. H’s case. Dentists have a commitment to help those who cannot afford dental care. DDS is a great way to achieve this.” Mr. H happily reported to Dr. B that for the first time in his life, others are commenting on his smile. He continued, “It’s very heartwarming to be part of something like DDS. It’s so nice to be able to smile again.”
